I have s tac 2.5x17x56 find it ok with ward 800 if you mag up I don't find dot too large for fox up to 200 yards also shot a couple at 280 but preferably get them in closer

Dave , i have currently the s-tac 4a 2-17 x56 , the baby s-tac 4-20 x 50 2moa ,delta 4-30 x 50 titainium , plus a couple of others , had 2 big s-tacs , one mil hash and still have the 4a ret , the glass in the 4a was better , dont know why ,but was , dot in ret ok for foxing didnt have an issue with it , the baby s-tac is on the hmr , really nice scope ,works well ,and clear in day or with n.v , yet you dont get on with it? The Delta is a nice scope , fine dot in the ret, good in daylight and pretty good at night ,only focuses down to 25m if i recall , to be honest all pretty similar in function , a sunshade will probably help if getting sun glare problems , best try and have a look at each, see what floats your boat.....

Thanks pops, I think the issue with the 4-20x50 might be internal reflections but it might just be reflected IR from the sound mod that I just can't seem to block. Last time I tried to view 300 yard bunnies through it with the add on was just like viewing mist, it also happened with a red LED torch mounted at the same height above the scope.

A 56mm objective might make a difference - particularly if I use an integrated small diameter VSCEL torch (at similar height) that may come to fruition on this back burner project that will be left to the boy with my rifles. Also I've only ever used fairly low budget scopes so want to aim a bit higher. At least it will have a better directed beam peeking over the larger objective.

As for the larger scope - its a sort of 'backburner because I can' thing I spose - assuming I can swap stock for one because I'm not going to buy one while I have surplus stock laying about: The boy isn't likely to be target shooting just yet anyway so its more a plan for the future if I can make it worthwhile for someone with a surplus scope who'd put NV to better use.

I'd try to bribe that 4a one off you but I know you build your own great rigs.

If I keep bumping the idea around the right guy will find it sooner or later. Anyone else got any input/bump?

Burris Four X (30mm) 3-12x56 IR Rifle Scope would also be agreeable.

oddone that Dave , never had a problem with the homebrew nv/screen with the babay s-tac, either with the olson or vscel , the 2moa ret works a treat on the sreen , ideal on the hmr for rabbitting, picture perfect with the vscel to way beyond you would shoot , the big s-tac , again no problems , went on my 204 when i first got it , first fox with the 204/s-tac / homebrew nv with the olson was 276 paces, now replaced with a vscel , man , its so good !The Delta is now set up for day shooting , probably to much mag but a really nice crisp/colours in the picture , with a fine dot ideal for pushing it a bit,works well on the nv homebrew as well , all nice scopes , definatly see the edge over a mamba 4-20 x50 4a ret in daylight and would say night too, i still like for a cheap scpoe the Simmons wtc 6-20 x 50 front a/o , still gives a good day picture and ok for night , especially now using the vscels , the young keeper with his howa 243/ simmons wtc / homebrew kit has flattenend 3-4 foxes over 300yds on 20x with this combo.

BUMP. Huh - I took the 17REM out to see how the VSCEL went with it, but this time with a trial cardboard matt black tube for a super long sunshade. The cloudy issue wasn't there.

Can't believe I forgot to take the TF card out the PC reader AGAIN!

I have a archer on the back of a Sightron stac 4-20x50 and the bloom that you see at anything over 12 mag I also have experienced this but I just tightened the Ian Sirrell’s XTL a little and the picture was crisp again all the way up-to 20 mag
