Re: Possible new section on the forum.
I've either given the wrong impression, or some of you have got hold of the wrong end of the stick.
Just like the 'Rifles and Ammo' section, this would be about the air rifles you/we use. What type, repairs, tuning, pellets, show and tell, etc. The 'Rifles and Ammo' section seems to work quite well.
It would NOT be for 'nv suitable for air rifles'. We've already got that in other sections. We have DIY NV. We have DIY Illumination. We have General Nightvision, for tubed gear. Each of those sections contain rigs that are suitable for air rifles.

What utter nonsense you are talking porkycrook,i shoot air only and have found loads of very useful information on here. Also i have never seen a post were any members have laughed at air rifle shooters, think maybe you got that a bit wrong eh.porkycrook wrote:As an air rifle shooter myself I say yes. Some of the technology that is outdated to you could be of use for us close range shooters.

Re: Possible new section on the forum.
don't shoot an air rifle cos I don't own one .........yet
however I do enjoy reading the posts that the guys using air power submit
I think It could be a good thing, will bring more people to the forum and so increase the great wealth of knowlege that this site already has
just my opinion

All I've had since joining this forum was air rifles. I started off making a cheap as chips NV setup then upgraded it because I preferred to see more clearly and further.
Not once have I been looked down apon for that.
Sometimes I thought to myself 'don't be silly. You don't need that for air rifle ranges', but why not. It's a learning curve and everyone's helping everyone!
I think a sub forum for 'air powered' under a main forum of firearms would be good. Then anything Airgun/pistol related could be put there. (Like marky said, also rimfire and centrefire would be good)
All the DIY NV and illuminator stuff should still go in their normal section regardless if its nv for air rifle ranges or centre fire.

You probably got laughed at for joining the forum then with all the wealth of knowledge available here, decided to spend the best part of £400 on an ns50.porkycrook wrote:As an air rifle shooter myself I say yes. Re: Possible new section on the forum.
George, i think and Air section could work, if it turns into chaos bin it.
Re: Possible new section on the forum.
One of the reasons to expand the sections is to expand the forum. And that is to bring in a larger body of people out there to see this as their number 1 forum.
For example, I am not very technical, I look down the hole that gives me an image point it at the target and squeeze the trigger. I can happily say which unit is better than the other. So most of my interest is when someone says, if you buy this it will make things a gazillion times better. But I haven't got the time or patience to make my own. Give me a hammer and grinder any day.
So I spend most of my time in the hunting section and guns and ammo. I have my NV and am not looking for more. Now I am more concentrating on the perfect scope.
In order to keep this forum expanding I think we need to have other sections that will keep people interested. I think there are a lot of people who come in get some info then don't bother coming back. If we don't expand then we are in danger of becoming a small specialised site for techies to chew over things and people who don't have or want that knowledge will wander off quickly, which is a shame as they can often contribute masses of other information.
My personal view is that the forum should expand beyond its NV roots. NOT move away from them, lets be clear on that. That way you are more likely to bring in new people and keep them. I spend a lot of time on the Stalking Directory because they have the various hunting sections and top tips sections plus the area meet ups to name a view. Until tonight I had shot 2 deer. but there is a lot of stuff on there that keep me going back. None of these sections detract from the fact that it is a stalking website, or more likely the no1 stalking website with about 10,000 members.
more that they add to the overall package.
I have been chewing over this and I think that we should be reviewing manufacturers kit for users because as an nv site we know the 3 things needed for an addon as an example.
The scope,
the illumination
and the addon it self. Get one of these wrong and we know the result. And I won't bother mentioning dedicated at the moment. So we should be reviewing all of these products.
Regarding problems from other sites, I think that is how the mods run it. Here I think it is apparent that we will let people have their say and most of the time people respect it. There are very few reported threads. We will react when people become abusive, plain rude, use offensive language or say something that could bring the site into disrepute or even cause the site owners to be sued. It is amazing how careful you need to be. Other than that we try to leave as much alone as possible. If the forum expands there should be no changes.
I see adding sections as being a good thing, provided we add the right sections at the right time.
Would a better question be? What should we add that you would be interested in?
Hopefully I have explained myself clearly and the spellchecker hasn't mucked things around much

Re: Possible new section on the forum.
good post there gloop, i agree with everything you put
especialy the part about reviewing kit....how awsome would it be if manufacturers sent us units to test.
we could have 3 or 4 of us that tested the stuff. ideally those of us who have a range of kit. digi, dedicated, tubed ect
and can do real world tests and comparisons.........oh well, we can but dream
