Re: Thermal..... Again!
I stuck the vixen call on at the weekend and the fox ran away. Pah!!
Re: Thermal..... Again!
Obviously a gay fox. Or an immature male that still thinks girls have cooties.

Nice one Darren, it would be good to know exactly what the 'barks' mean.
On the other note, my guide last night was around the 2000's off set. The gain or the offset didn't seem to be moving around as much as earlier in the day. However the gain was NEVER anywhere as low as the teens like yours it was still about the 100-130 Mark.
I tried cranking the gain and adjusting the off set manually and got a brighter pic which did seem 'slightly' more defined. I then clicked back on auto and it did dull a little but there was no 'real' difference in the detail. I didn't bother using semi auto again for the rest of the night..

Re: Thermal..... Again!
The 3 barks are the mating call of the dog fox as a rule they are mating now or have mated already . So basically this is what's happening. I want s#x . Then your call means come and get it.
My gain last night was around 150 and offset was 4800. I'm meeting with a nice man from south end tomorrow night to compare units. Fox pro it works but sometime you have to wait normally around the half hour mark or 3 roll ups. I use 3 calls only vixen call vole squeak and mad rabbit.

Re: Thermal..... Again!
Last night I had a dog fox on field mouse distress. I caught a glimpse of a heat source in a dry gutter moving down over a fern breast so switched to the nv. Couldn't see anything so back on the thermal, there he was moving across the breast away from me. Switched the caller on and kept cranking up the volume but couldn't hear it so assumed the batteries had died as there was no wind and the night seemed quiet and I thought I should hear something. Worrying I was wasting time I muted the caller (just in case) and went back to the thermal. There was Charles standing on a wall in front of me. I switched to the dedicated and here he was coming towards me across the field. I took the shot while he was walking as he was going to go out of sight. I knew I'd hit it but it ran over the bank out of sight. I thought this would be a great test for the thermal so went in search. I put the torch on and he was dead against the fence. It's the first one I've had run for a while so I was pissed off I didn't get to do investigative work with the thermal but was glad to see it dead anyway. It didn't go far but the shot was a little far back because it was on the move. It was one of the ones with the gut not being in the right place which you'd never think would move from the impact.
I don't think I could manage with only three calls, I seem to find I need to vary certain things at different times but it would make life easier to remember what button does what
Good stuff with the meet up, be good to hear the outcome

ive used the mouse squeeker on the fox pro the one ware you can just about here it. i thought it was beyond our hearing and that was why it sounded so quiet. so i put my db meter on it and no its not very loud at all, i asume that the fox was very close to hear it. im trying to post some more pics now.

Re: Thermal..... Again!
Aye that was my problem, it was playing but I couldn't hear it
When I put the caller on the fox was just over about 200 yrds I guess but going away from me and out of sight. It was on a fern breast with ant hills, humps, tumps, dips and rushes so I'd only caught slight flashes on the thermal, there was no way of taking a shot with the nv where it was or had been. It was more luck than judgement it came in the way it did presenting a relatively easy shot under 100yrds. That's why the shot was also a little low, I'd guess it was around 70yrds when I took the shot but didn't hold over at all.

Re: Thermal..... Again!
That's mental, the ones you manually set seemed clearer pics than mine on auto last night but I was looking at open mountain. On auto your unit definitely doesn't perform like mine. You've now got me thinking I should be really looking to tweak my settings. Hmmm, be good to see exactly how it performs side by side with the other EC. You should both take pics of the same thing if there is a vast difference and your looking for evidence that your unit isn't performing how it should. That's a piss off if you can't use yours in auto but it certainly looks ok set manually..
