Many thanks guys. There are clearly solutions out there just no 008’s sight now. I believe SGC Have one away with trading Standards right now for testing of the laser. In the mean time I’ll keep on looking/learning and even working up an add on solution to a S-Tac or similar.

So SGC have given Trading Standards an 008 to play with - this will be interesting!
Maybe we should start a poll on what their response is:
I'd say the following are possible outcomes:
1. Trading Standards are satisfied the IR emissions can be classified under the lamp standard and the 008s can be sold as long as they have the correct labelling (this would be the technically correct answer)
2. Trading Standards insist the IR is a class 3B or class 4 laser and cannot be sold (SGC are left with a VERY red face!)
3. Trading Standards just want the product labelled saying class 3B or class 4 laser (unlikely)
4. SGC are sneaky and give Trading Standards an 008 which has firmware that disables the IR. Trading Standards can either pass the 008 as fit for sale, or say no because there is still an IR laser fitted to the 008, even although it doesn't work and they know the IR can be enabled by installing different firmware.
Any other possible outcomes?
Cheers

5. SGC gives Trading Standars a model that has specifically weaker IR output (this would be technically the same as Bruce's 1. but would save face at TS since they can present a special UK model that has been approved with them)

Yes, that's a possibility, but unless there is a firmware version available to increase the IR power after purchase, they won't sell many!
