Which make and model of Laptop ? would you recommend ? good point, bad points, which makes and models to avoid ? Any input is thanked in advance

Personally, I'd avoid anything with windows 8 or higher, unless you really want touch screen capability.
For serious user it's windows 7
As for make and model, Dell are pretty reliable (my XPS 1300 is 10 years old and still does everything I need)

I think you'll need to give more information as to what you need and your budget as the choice is huge. If you want to do just a bit of web browsing or edit video or maybe play games, it all makes a big difference to the spec required.

Try get it with windows 7 as windows 8-10 is annoying in many ways. Avoid ACER.
